Química del Estroncio is a Spain-based high-tech company, 100% of Fertiberia Group capital, located in the Escombreras Valley (Cartagena), whose main activity is the production of strontium salts used in multiple applications worldwide in the ceramic, glass, pigment, pyrotechnics, zinc, electronics and others.

In the year 2000, the Company began operations from its factory, as the culmination of an important industrial project, developed with its own technology, from the Celestina mineral (strontium sulfate) to obtain high quality strontium carbonate and nitrate, being the first and the only European factory to produce this strontium nitrate salt.

Membership of the Fertiberia Group, European leader in the production of fertilizers and industrial products in South Europe with a presence in more than 50 countries, has driven the launch in Química del Estroncio of new business lines of fertilizers with a high added value.

Production center

The facilities of QUIMICA DEL ESTRONCIO are situated in a strategic area: the Escombreras Valley in Cartagena (Spain), an industrial estate very close to the Commercial Port of the city, from where different products can be shipped to the main consumer markets around the world (Northeast Asia, India, USA, and elsewhere).

The supply to Spanish and other European consumers is carried out by road from Cartagena through a consolidated network of expressways and motorways.

Main tasks and responsibilities within the project

To run an alternative process in a demonstration plant for the production of Potassium Nitrate that enables QSR to reduce waste water, mother liquor, water consumption and energy that will help the Industrial complex to manage water resources, fundamentally in an area where water is a scarce resource. (Water management, Energy efficiency).
To recover and reuse a by-product produced in the demonstration plant which is wasted in the state of the art of Potassium Nitrate production, using an innovative process that will be tested in a pilot plant and patented. QSR will run the pilot plant in its installations (CIRCULAR ECONOMY)
To be part of the integration of raw materials and by-products in the Fertiberia Group and the industrial complex, reducing natural resources consumptions, energy and wastes. Consequently, reducing CO2 emissions in the industrial complex and in Fertiberia Group. (CO2 emissions reduction, Circular Economy)
To collaborate with Fertiberia in carrying out a Study for renewable energy production for the industrial complex, including in this Study provide energy to the Desalinisation plant in the complex. (Renewable ENERGY, CO2 emissions reduction)
To collaborate with the Demo partners to adapt the current process control and procedures to ensure the production of a quality product as well as health and safety conditions. (RETROFEETING)

QSR will be one of the main participants in the Spanis demosntrator, carrying out their activities mainly in WP2, WP3, WP4 and WP5
