RINA CONSULTING – CENTRO SVILUPPO MATERIALI SPA

ITALY

Brief Description

RINA CONSULTING CENTRO SVILUPPO MATERIALI Rina Consulting Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.P.A. (CSM) was established in 1963 as a research Centre for the State iron and steel industry, in 1998 it changed into a private Industrial Research Centre for research and development of materials.

Today CSM is a company of RINA Group. RINA Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali, with over 200 talented researchers and technicians, 20 laboratories, pilot lines and full scale testing facilities, is the partner of choice for any project in which materials, technology and innovation play a critical role.

The traditional presence of CSM as the Italian reference pole in European research (RFCS and Framework Programmes) results in hundreds of international collaboration agreements and contracts. CSM stands as national reference point on the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) issues supported by a network of the major Italian Universities and the main public Research Centers.

Currently CSM also contributes to the definition of the national development lines for I4.0 issues. The traditional presence of CSM as the Italian reference pole in European research (RFCS, Framework Programmes, H2020) results in hundreds of international collaboration agreements and contracts.
CSM has a long-standing European tradition dating back to 1970, when Italy participated in the first projects of RFCS (Research Fund for Coal and Steel) program, and we are currently involved in:

  • 58 RFCS (Research Fund for Coal and Steel) projects
  • 10 FP7 (7th Framework Program) projects
  • 5 Horizon 2020
  • CSM is high-level participants in the European Technological Platforms:

    • ESTEP (steel)
    • EuMat (advanced materials) And also co-founders of RIES (Research Initiative European Steel) for the coordination among the main iron and steel research centers in Europe. Specific skills for the project are related to knowledge and wide experience on environmental issues, energy saving, utilization of alternative carbon materials, process modelling and optimization.

Main tasks and responsibilities within the project

CSM will be involved in the technical coordination of the activity, in cooperation with the Industrial Association, in the territory of Brescia.

More specifically, CSM will perform also all the necessary physico chemical characterizations of the material which will be used in the demo case:

  • Chemical analysis

  • Thermogravimetric tests

  • Small scale pyrolysis test to support the process design and the basic engineering of the pyrolysis plant

CSM will cooperate with ORI Martin to set up the briquetting process, starting from the scouting of available technologies, up to process and blend definition and assistance during industrial trials

CSM will support Feralpi to design the reducing fu.rnace and in the process definition. CSM will support Feralpi also in the industrial trials.

CSM will be also involved in dissemination activities.
