We are happy to announce CORALIS has initiated a set of synergy activities with Horizon 2020 project INITIATE, to foster mutual knowledge exchange on common project challenges.

The INITIATE project, Innovative industrial transformation of the steel and chemical industries of Europe, started in January 2021 and aims at demonstrating industrial symbiosis by using residual carbon-rich gas from the iron and steel industry as a valuable feedstock for the chemical sector. The Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 piloting combines the continuous production of N2 + H2 and COstreams with the innovative ammonia production as a precursor for urea, to be used as fertilizer and AdBlue®.

The INITIATE consortium consists of major steel and chemical industrial players (ArcelorMittal, SSAB, Stamicarbon, NextChem), functional material suppliers (Johnson Matthey, Kisuma Chemicals B.V.), research organisations (TNO, Swerim AB, Politecnico di Milano, Radboud University) and experienced promoters of CCU, circularity and industrial symbiosis topics (CO2 Value Europe).

The exploitation of synergies with H2020 projects will mostly involve exchange of learning material and planning and organizing webinars and thematic workshops along with a set of other activities.

Stay tuned to find out more about the upcoming synergies between INITIATE and CORALIS.
