CORALIS participation in Concerned Action for the Energy Efficiency Directive (CA EED) Plenary meeting

On 11-12 October 2022, the 1st Plenary Meeting of the Concerned Action for the Energy Efficiency Directive (CA EED) took place in Stockholm.

The Concerted Action for the Energy Efficiency Directive exists to support the effective implementation of the Directive on Energy Efficiency (2012/27/EU) in all EU Member States and Norway. It provides a trusted forum for the exchange of experiences and collaboration, which helps countries learn from each other, avoid pitfalls and build on successful approaches when implementing the Directive. The work done by CA EED members aims to help the EU reach its 30% energy efficiency target by 2030.

CORALIS participated during the second day of the meeting, with Danna Persson, project coordinator at WA3RM, representing the consortium for this international cooperation for Industrial Symbiosis from the perspective of the Swedish case, our Regenergy Frövi project.

The event provided a fertile ground for fruitful discussion on the ways in which the CA EED work can help lift barriers for Industrial Symbiosis.

WA3RM is bringing into full operation a full-scale greenhouse and an aquacultural system, supplied with waste heat and CO₂ from BillerudKorsnäs pulp and papermill, thereby demonstrating Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) enabled with waste heat. This work has been partially funded through the CORALIS (“Creation Of new value chain Relations through novel Approaches facilitating Long-term Industrial Symbiosis”) project, a 4-year Horizon 2020 project funded to shed light on the implementation reality of IS solutions and on the ways to overcome related barriers. The facility will demonstrate the physical industrial symbiosis of sharing CO₂ and heat, as well as the business model between involved parties.
