Publishable summary: The CORALIS project aims to explore innovative approaches to creating new value chain relations that promote long-term industrial symbiosis. The project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020-program, and it seeks to decarbonise resource- and energy-intensive industries by increasing knowledge and practical experiences gained from applying industrial symbiosis practices, which involve resource exchange among industries to improve efficiency and sustainability.
This report summarises key learnings from industrial symbiosis initiatives carried out across several demonstrator sites, including ‘Lighthouses’ in Spain, Sweden and Italy, with insights from supporting ‘Follower’ sites in Austria, Spain and Turkey. The key dimensions explored in this report include managerial procedures, trust-building and business model development, and the resulting learnings listed offer a selection of good practices based on the experiences gained from the CORALIS demonstrators. When implemented, these practices can help advance the field and create a more innovative, collaborative, and resource-efficient industrial landscape.
