Recycling rates in Latin America are less than 10%, while the region produces around a tenth of global waste, without counting industrial wastage.
In this context, Ecuador, along with approving the Organic Law on Inclusive Circular Economy, first country to do so in Latin America, has also launched a digital platform on industrial symbiosis.
This platform has been created by UNACEM Ecuador and CERES, as well as being endorsed by the Ministry of Environment and Water. These organisations consider that industrial symbiosis will prove essential in creating a circular economy by yielding valuable information on industry processes and data and by bringing industries together so that waste generated by their processes can be used in other production chains.
