The “Visioning workshop” organized by Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters’ Association (IMMIB) was successfully completed online on 26th November 2021.

The workshop was attended by 28 participants, mainly sectoral representatives and companies, but also by other stakeholder groups such as NGOs, universities etc.

As part of the CORALIS project activities, the workshop aimed at establishing a basis for a common industrial symbiosis vision in Turkey, in order to motivate local stakeholders, increase their engagement and receive their input.

The workshop’s objectives were determined as:

  1. Identification of potential new IS initiatives.
  2. Identification of collaboration relationships on IS in the area before and after the CORALIS implementation. Identification of the needs for governance structure for the IS in the area, to manage those collaboration relationships.
  3. Identification of the common goals and generation of the common vision for the area.

The workshop’s structure consisted of a presentation of the CORALIS project, an inspirational talk on Industrial Symbiosis and three thematic sessions dedicated to each workshop objective. The workshop made use of surveys, questionnaires and Miro board activities, which made the discussion interactive and insightful. The participants discussed the existing IS practices in the area, new IS practices due to the CORALIS project, collaboration relationships between stakeholders involved in the existing IS practices, governance structures which would facilitate IS implementation in the region, major challenges ahead etc.

Overall the workshop generated valuable insights for the region’s industrial symbiosis potential and was a fertile ground for vibrant discussion among a range of stakeholders.
